Adsorption of Methylene Blue by NaOH-modified Dead Leaves of Plane Trees  [PDF]

Abstract:

NaOH-modified dead leaves of plane trees were used as bioadsorbent to remove methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. Variable influencing factors, including contact time, temperature, initial MB concentration and pH were studied through single-factor experiments. The results showed that the initial concentration 100 mg/L, bioadsorbent of 2.5 g/L, pH of 7, room temperature were the best adsorption conditions. The NaOH-modified bioadsorbent had a high adsorption capacity for MB, and its saturated extent of adsorption was 203.28 mg/g, which was higher than the un-modified dead leaves (145.62 mg/g) and some other bioadsorbents. Finally, adsorption kinetics and isotherms were discussed, suggesting that the Langmuir isotherm model and Pseudo-second order kinetics were fitted well with the adsorption process.

Abstract: The classical composite rectangle (constant) rule for the computation of Cauchy principle value integral with the singular kernel \"\"is discussed. We show that the superconvergence rate of the composite midpoint rule occurs at certain local coodinate of each subinterval and obtain the corresponding superconvergence error estimate. Then collation methods are presented to solve certain kind of Hilbert singular integral equation. At last, some numerical examples are provided to validate the theoretical analysis.
Optimal combination of baicalin, icariin and Astragalus saponin Ⅰ from a Chinese herbal compound Biminne

Abstract: Objective: To study the optimal combined ratio of baicalin, icariin and Astragalus saponin Ⅰ from a Chinese herbal compound Biminne. Methods: Firstly, a mouse model of allergic rhinitis was established by intraperitoneal injection of ovalbumin (OVA) and aluminum hydroxide gel suspension, and the effective dose range of baicalin, icariin and Astragalus saponin Ⅰ was detected by 2,3-bis(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium-5-carboxanilide inner salt method. Secondly, 10 groups of combinations of baicalin, icariin and Astragalus saponin Ⅰ assembled by U*10(108) form were employed to determine the optimal combination by means of analyzing of the inhibitory effect on the splenocyte proliferation. Finally, the effects of each effective ingredient and the optimal combination were compared by observing the splenocyte proliferation, the contents of interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-5, interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) in supernatant of the splenocyte cultures and the ratio of IL-4 to IFN-γ in order to verify the result. Results: Baicalin or icariin at concentrations ranging from 2 to 10 μmol/L, and Astragalus saponin Ⅰ from 1 to 10 μmol/L effectively suppressed the splenocyte proliferation. When the proportion of baicalin, icariin and Astragalus saponin Ⅰ was 1∶2.14∶2.65, the inhibitory effect was most remarkable. Further research confirmed the rationality of the optimal combination.Conclusion: An optimal combination of the major effective ingredients from Chinese herbal compound Biminne most effectively suppresses the proliferation of splenocytes from sensitized mice and regulates the cytokine secreting.

Adaptive finite element method for elliptic optimal control problems: convergence and optimality

Abstract: In this paper we consider the convergence analysis of adaptive finite element method for elliptic optimal control problems with pointwise control constraints. We use variational discretization concept to discretize the control variable and piecewise linear and continuous finite elements to approximate the state variable. Based on the well-established convergence theory of AFEM for elliptic boundary value problems, we rigorously prove the convergence and quasi-optimality of AFEM for optimal control problems with respect to the state and adjoint state variables, by using the so-called perturbation argument. Numerical experiments confirm our theoretical analysis.
